Memtest86 does not use any OS, so you do not "install" it except to
create a floppy or CD that uses it to start your machine. No program
could properly test memory with any OS in the way. The best way is to
choose to run it from any recent Linux installation CD. If you have none
of those, burn one of this http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/ and choose
memtest from its boot startup menu.
