Hello Jean -

JP> Whatever floats your canoe.

Shouldn't that be Ce l'vie?

--8<--cut

CA>> When I have the need to operate a server either as an
CA>> intranet for 'connection sharing' or 24/7 cable connect
CA>> WWW/FTP server I would use W2K in a hearbeat over W9x.

JP> I can see how. W2K is so protected that it would be a good
JP> choice.

I try to make good choices. :-)

JP> I have a relative that is a notary and she always worries
JP> about keeping her data secure.

Data security is a preocuppation that generates paychecks and
sells software. At another time it sold safes and guns. :-)

All she needs is a good CD burner and a locking file cabinet.
Burn the customer's data to their own CDs, lock them in the
appropriate file drawer, then enjoy using a simplified user
interface ala Windows.

JP> She is still on W95 but with what I know now of W2K, I will
JP> try and convince her to make the move.

W2K and other NT derivatives (not family) are server software.
The admin functions just get in the way. It's like using a 747
to fly to the next town. A bit of overkill IMO.

JP> But again, as Jeff G. said, security is relative still.

A large part of Jeff's income is due to paranoia. No insult to
Jeff for easing their grief but I really don't have that level
of paranoia.

JP> BTW, I only have two daughters, you win.

Daughters give a father great joy, sons cause a father to
rethink his attitudes and exercise restraint in all that he
does.
