I assume you are accessing an MS-Access database. For filesystem
databases (such as MS-Access), DAO is preferrable. You can access all
the tables and queries directly, without the overhead of emulating a
database server. Alas, Microsoft wants everybody to switch software
daily, and thinks it is old.
ADO is specially written for database servers (SQL server, oracle,
etc.), so for a database server you might as well use ADO. Alas,
Microsoft wants everybody to switch software daily, and thinks it is
old. (Hey, didn't I write that before?)
ADO dot NET is like ADO, but off course different, for the dot NET
framework. Better switch today if you like Microsoft upgrade schemes...

If you create an installer, DAO (or ADO, for that matter) should be in
the install file. ADO has had some install problems in the past as well.
If you are afraid your database passwords get cracked (really simple in
DAO 3.51 generated databases), switch to DAO 3.6. Otherwise, I don't
know the difference. Note that DAO 3.6 generated database files are not
necessarily readable by DAO 3.51. The other way around should work fine.

I know Microsoft wanted to stop support for DAO. And, in the meantime,
probably have.

I have never worked with the "wise" program, and I never write
installers myself. Can't help you there, I'm afraid.

Good luck!
