"I" would. But the information can also grow a life of its own.

Just look at that "imminent" example. Bush clearly said: 
"Some have said we must not act until the threat is imminent..."
over a year ago in his 2003 SOTU address. Yet, the liberal leaning press
continues to this day to claim that the threat wasn't imminent, thus the
war is a fraud, witness the left-winger Robert Scheer in the Nation (well
these guys don't lean left, they're on a rowboat to the left of San
Francisco) on 1/20/04:

"With the stated reasons for the U.S. invasion--the imminent threat of
Saddam Hussein's weapons of mass destruction and his ties to Al Qaeda--now
a proven fraud..."

They just keep repeating the reverse of what was said as if their version
is correct, but at least they're simply reversing the meaning behind
"imminent" for the most part to suit their agenda which easily
countered with the truth, but here Scheer makes up another reason out of
whole cloth - "ties to Al Qaeda" which was never forwarded by the
administration at all.
