That's the problem.

Without the patriot act someone like this truck driver would have been
investigated just as much, but it would have been by the book.  Now, sure,
this guy will be investigated with little interference, but so will
everyone else he has been around, anyone who might comment on the case, or
anyone in the same city, or ....., whether there is reason to investigate
them or not

The patriot act is an abomination to the laws and ideals of this land.
