subject: Re: [OS2HW] Updated Install Disks - UPDATE

Hello Steve and group
Sorry for snipping everything but I'm still on webmail and it's primarily
all or nothing, without much more trouble than it's worth and also I only
intend to reply to just a few things and tag on my install experience so
far since it may affect buying decisions for many.

Yeah I know David (ouch! sorry about forgetting his last name even after
he managed to post here resently and even sorrier he became a doze guy) no
longer uses OS/2 or at least for anything but nostalgia but I wasn't trying
to use him as an authority name drop. It was just that I recall him being
part of the discussion and possibly the originator. Like you, I wonder if
it may still be true but my experience with at least the MSI K8N-Neo2
Platinum has been extremely positive so far since the error I reported in
attempting to load install diskettes was entirely solved by just
"Danis506.Add" ! Once more I am in awe and appreciation of her
talent and generosity. Thank you Dani!

So far I have not actually installed having stopped right where LVM ends.
I didn't want to commit any changes yet and besides I simply Ghosted
another OS/2 basic system onto the new hard drive while expanding it to
17Gigs making sure to place it in exactly the same framework ( 2nd Disk,
1st log Partition). I also Ghosted BootManager but from a drive not from
an image and it was apparantly bad so I just used Airboot and everything
booted fine after the old "revert to VGA" trick. Now I am
building a set of diskettes with a new OS2LDR, DanisDASD, DanisATAPI and of
course Danis506 and trying to recall how to disable LVM yet still get FDISK
so I can dump "compatibility" issues. Speaking of which any
comments about AirBoot's apparent ability to deal with Ext Partition
inconsistencies, switching for each system?

BTW since you and I both have now mentioned Ghost I suppose you know that
even the newer versions still work fine with HPFS, and other File Systems
when run from Dos Diskettes?

Yes I agree it is a shame about PQMagic dropping support but I can see
why since the problem of ext partitions alone would be sufficient. Chalk
one up for MS sabotage, eh? It's still a great program for everything else
and is even highly recommende by Patrick Volkerding, creator of Slackware
Linux, although I wonder what's going to happen there since Dani says Linux
is playing with fake descriptors too that are different from M$.

I am still intending to go through with a new install (I guess I'm a
glutton for punishment...... forgot what a hassle it was to get running
properly what with no real file manager and all the fixes, etc. While I
highly recommend a dedicated box it is still thrilling to see it scream on
new hardware.

Jimmy
