I have no doubt that the technique is used on blogs. Given that most of the
blogs I have seen reflect a less than mature approach, I am not surprised.
I have little doubt the technique is used because those using it are
incapable of writing a coherent paragraph or two. It is much easier to take
a speech sentence
by sentence and attach a brief critical comment to each. No real writing
skills required.

As long as Fallows has been around in the public writing racket, he should
know better. But I am not surprised he doesn't.
