Heck the less trouble with machines & software...the fewer jobs.
Imagine a "self-healing" system where the PC'es & the bigger
boxes can all look after themselves to a large degree (e.g. sending
requests for new hard disks etc if one is showing signs of failing or if
more space is required).
In theory OS'es are getting more "robust" & hardware is
getting "higher quality" which means fewer problems which
tranlates into fewer staff.
