He may or may not be an alarmist. Earth's climate has had sudden swings in
the past. Britain and parts of Europe have been plunged into mini ice ages.
This is an area where I would say that further research is warranted.

 There seems to be an attitude amongst some conservative types that global
warming is myth and cut off all research into it. They may or may not be
correct. I'd just like some ongoing research. I do agree that there is much
alarmist propganda out there - The alar/apple environmentalist scare tactic
comes to mind along with the testimony of actors before congress.
