That method has been used increasingly, and somewhat effectively,  in blogs
and has been called "fisking" among other things. The examples
I've seen used different colored ink for the commentary, which did make it
easier to follow at a glance. I agree in this instance that it grew tiring
to read, so I quickly abandoned it for other reading.
