DC> With luck, I'll be able to arrange that for next season. BTW,
DC> I understand that there's a boat size minimum... do you know
DC> what that is? And, no! I'm not thinking of entering the C-Lark!
There is a minimum PHRF rating for the offshore race. I _think_ it's around
135.
DC> Also, about how long does the race last? I hear 24+ hrs...
Depends which course you do. Offshore can be as much as 48 hours, Neah Bay
can take 36+ and the short course (Flattery?) could get you back within 24.
DC> That sounds like you learned the rule the hard way! All I
I was OK until I fell asleep below sitting sideways pounding into a 35 knot
wind with about a six foot chop on top of a twenty foot swell. The skipper
called for a fix and as soon as my eyes focused on the chart, my stomach
flipped. I quickly bailed out to the low side, squeezed in between two
others already there, then went back to do the fix. It's the only time I've
actually fed the fish, but I did spend a few days feeling off coming back
from Hawaii.
DC> I take it that that's a real place with a real translation.
Unfortunately, yes. It's a rather large suburb of Vancouver. There's also
Port Coquitlam right next door.....
DC> Yeah, as that's the only time they may sleep... You usually
DC> find them looking like, not a shoal, but like a very strangely
DC> painted VW bus.
:)
DC> BTW, if you make to the next Swiftsure, I'm looking forward to
DC> meeting you. You sound like you're as crazy as my skipper!
Oh, oh..... Just what I need. :) Not sure if I'll be there this year, but
chances are good.
