[ Quoting KENNETH ABRAMS to SCOTT LITTLE ]
KA> software. And it can't even touch OS/2 software. Before Win32s 1.30
KA> and then Win95 came along, it could be said that OS/2 *did* have more
KA> of an application choice than Windows.
Before '95, it was a classic case of "Can't beat em, join em". Now IBM can't
even join em.
SL> Flexibility is NOT choices.
KA> Yes, ladies and gentlemen, here we have evidence that this is, indeed,
KA> a genuine Scott Little message. Clueless as usual.
Choices are just that. I can choose one program, I can choose another, I can
choose how I wish to implement it, etc. etc. Flexibility means being able to
customise the system to do something different and produce different output.
SL> Manual: "To install FAT32 support for large HDDs, you must FORMAT
SL> yo..." [user doesn't bother finishing]
KA> Yep, MS does make a habit of assuming the user is a blithering idiot
KA> that has no idea what he is doing and must be protected from himself.
Having said that, they leave the registry editor in the path so the idiot
can type REGEDIT from anywhere and get right into the guts of the system.
Even the control panel is a dangerous place for many users.
KA> And that is one of the primary reasons I dislike MS's software and
KA> OS's. I'm *not* an idiot, I generally do know what I'm doing, and I
KA> detest software that assumes, generally incorrectly, that it knows
KA> more about what I want than I do.
I just hate two or three confirmations in a row.
"Do you want to do this Y/N"
"Doing this will . Are you sure Y/N"
"About to . Hit ENTER to proceed to anything
else to abort".
