My parents stopped getting a sitter for me and my sister when I was around
10 unless they were going to be out much past 10:00 or 11:00. I was sitting
for other people's children in my neighborhood at age 12, and that wasn't
abnormal for where I lived.  Most of my friends were doing the same thing.
