Doing fliers for colleges is kind of an art form. And right now is finals
week here in Sacramento, so you've missed a high point in the cycle.
We find our best success comes with a flier that has the word "TYPING" in
large letters. Be sure to have "tear-off" strips at the bottom of the flier
so clients can tear off a strip with your business name and phone number,
instead of tearing down your whole flier to get your number.
As for the bulletin board idea, that would make it very convenient for
clients to download work without paying for it. All of our student work is
cash and carry. Picking up in person allows the student/client to read for
any errors we might have introduced or missed. Of course, we can fix it
immediately for them.
Additionally, a student who has a computer, a modem, and knows how to
download typically will be doing their own word processing. We have a small
number of students who bring us papers on disk and ask us to edit their paper
and re-print on our laser printer. Be sure to scan all client disks with a
CURRENT virus checker! Using a two year old virus checking program is not
going to catch all the current nasties!
If you want a copy of our current resource list for word processing
businesses, send me an e-mail and I'll send it out for you. If you have
specific word processing questions, you can catch me in the INK echo, which
specializes in word processing, desktop publishing, and web design support.
Good luck on your summer project!
