DF> Batting!
DF> Okay say you want a quilt with loft that is also warm. Can you layer
DF> it where you have the top, poly-loft batting, cotton warm batting, and
DF> then the backing? If not why?
Hi Dorothy!
I've never heard of layering different battings - seems it would be
too thick to quilt though you could tie it. Mind you some of the
cotton battings can't be tied as they need to be quilted quite
closely so that they won't have balls of cotton lumps after washing :)
I find the poly-loft batting warm enough. If you get cold layer
another blanket :)
DF> You are going to set your blocks in a diamond shape. How would you
DF> cut the sashing? If strips outline a piece that is running on an
DF> angle say from the top left to the bottom right corner how would you
DF> cut the strips and that piece?
All the pieces are cut on the crosswise grain. Make the outside edges
of all your piecing on the grain and not bias. The bias edges will
stretch and your quilt will become wavy. The triangle pieces for the
corners are cut so that the longest edge is bias and the others are cut
on the straight grain.
DF> Thanks for any help you may be able to offer.
Hopefully I have helped you some. There are so many good
quilting books to read also.
