subject: data overrun?

BL> I did it today (once you found the usual hang and fixed it) and
BL> 2400 with EC was stuffed.

PE> Oh. Can 9600 do EC?

  Yes. So can 2400.

BL> I aborted the data download... my mail itself ought to have
 BL> been enough for you.

PE> The mail bundles were pretty small, so aren't the best for
 PE> testing, but we've already tested 2400 no-EC.

I was using 2400 ***WITH*** EC. For some reason, you do not
recognise my MNP signal, so the Sportster drops back to non-EC. The
other alternative is to hang up and abort.

BL> And it was failing on the UPLOAD too, except that *my* end was
BL> correcting. I get an "F" warning in telix, which means that I
BL> am overdriving your end and then wait. I *always* get this
BL> uploading at 14400 and so does Brenton at 28800, but it's the
BL> first time I've seen it at 2400. It's a bit hard to work out
BL> how I could overdrive your data port at 2400 baud.

PE> "F" means that you're overdriving the modem. The modem is
PE> dropping CTS or RTS (can't remember which is which), ie asking
PE> your computer to stop sending.

  Exactly.

PE> Telix sees the dropping of the ?TS line and puts "F" on the
PE> screen. You probably wouldn't have seen an "F" if you had set
PE> your port speed to 2400, as opposed to telling your modem to
PE> only connect at low speed.

I had ***BOTH*** my port and Modem set at 2400. How else do you want
me to do it? I expect that my modem keeps sending CTS/RTS because I am
overdriving ***YOUR*** modem (where all the trouble is).

And I suspect you have the same problem in the other direction (an
overdriven buffer), except that your dopey modem is *not* sending
CTS/RTS to your comm program and leaves zmodem at my end to struggle
on as best it can.

Get it in your head, Paul: there is nothing wrong at *my* end. We
are trying to solve a problem at *YOUR* end.

Regards,
Bob
