Sounds like not yet registered your new control.
If you compile it, it will register automatically and
will be added to the Components dialogBox.
1. Select the control project in the Project Explorer
window. From the file menu choose the Make option
for you project. - that is, Make MyControll.OCX - so
to display the Make Project dialogBox.
2. Click options to display the Project Properties
dialogBox.
3. Click on the Compile tab, and select the compilation
method and any optimization options. -Click OK.
4. In the Make Project dialogBox select the location
where you want to save the control. And just click OK
to compile it.
If you compile it at work. Then you can register your
control on your home machine from the Windows Command line, by the use of 
REGIT.EXE
It's found in VB tools folder\RegUtils.
There's an text explanation how to use it.
Just write:  RegIt.exe Path\MyControl
