I just want to take a moment, and THANK all of the parents that are
homeschooling their children.
It is quite plain to me, that the quality of instruction that is being
provided the children here that are being homeschooled, exceeds the level of
education received by the public school systems in a major way.
Do any of the parents here use LIVING ON THE EDGE by Dr. James Dobson, as
part of the course work? We are going through it with our children, and I
find it quite illuminating.
We, unfortunately, do not homeschool per se. I wish that I had the time to
do so, but I am on the road about 16 days out of each month. My wife, bless
her heart, does not have the temperament to conduct homeschooling.
I reeeeeealy wish that we had done something about it, long ago. My oldest
son, Lucas, is married and on his own now (at the 'young' age of 20). He was
not very successful in the Public School system, but did receive his diploma.
David (16), is in his Junior year,...but has 1st or 2nd quarter credits for
graduation. (Looks like it will be a long time before he graduates) David,
has a minor case of Tourettes Syndrome,...and is ADDH with some OCD. He is
quite intellegent, but not challenged with school what-so-ever. I wish there
were a way to motivate him.
Julia, (12), seems to perk right along in school, although she spends an
inordinate amount of time doing homework. She has average grades.
A few days ago, while grocery shopping with my wife, I picked up a
"HomeSchooling" magazine. I am reading it when I can, and would like some
parents inputs on various curriculum approaches to homeschooling.
Since my wife is not given in the vain of teaching classwork, does anyone
have some input that would assist me in setting up some additional schooling
for my two children still at home?
Does anyone do a CO-OP approach to schooling? Some parents teach Math,
Science, etc...and inlist the help of others in Reading, History, English? I
am curious about the various ways and approaches to homeschooling.
I will be checking with my church,...and talking with some of the other
parents there that are involved in homeschooling.
It is good to see an echo such as this.
