(Continued from previous message)
axes are people with *money*. What airtime is left over after
the corporations have sated themselves gets stuffed with
whatever the left-wing/liberal agenda for the day is. When was
the last time you saw *anything* that could be classified as
"politically incorrect" on PBS? Having a hard time remembering
a single instance?
What actually is the difference between "commercial"
television and PBS anyway? "Commercial" television is
beholden to its sponsors. Isn't PBS beholden to its sponsors?
How many Bible-Belt Baptists send in their $25 to get a tote
bag, huh? I'll bet a lot fewer than the upper middle class left-
wing Democrats do. Is it any wonder why you never hear any
of those Bible-Belters on PBS talking about something they
hold near and dear that might be offensive to those tote-bag
owners from the suburbs of New York, Boston, or L.A.?
So far as I've been able to tell, PBS doesn't understand
or doesn't care that if they want to do politics, they have to do
*everybody's* politics. Frankly, I think they're incapable of it.
They have time and again amply demonstrated that like their
commercial counterparts, freedom of speech is fine as long as
it agrees with their sponsors, management, and agenda. As far
as I'm concerned, let them get out of politics completely or
afford everybody true equal access (...don't hold your breath
waiting for that to happen.) If they can't or won't provide true
equal access, then let them slide the remaining 10% into
complete commercialism and let my tax dollar out of it. Maybe
they could rename themselves, "People's Broadcasting Service."
Yeah, yeah, that's the ticket...
