I have a one-year old 144LC that is practically a paperweight. I would very
much like to "upgrade" it too. But I doubt that there is such an upgrade
path option available from Supra. Keep in touch and let me know what you
end up doing with the 144LC.
Mine seems to have a major problem when operating in 14.4k speeds in the
RECEIVE channel. The best it can do on both channels without causing errors
and retries is 9600bps. I merely swapped the modem with a super-cheap
QuickTel XEBA 14.4k modem. The QuickTel works better than the Supra 144LC
ever did. The brand new QuickTel was half the cost of the 144LC. !!!
One supra tech person suggested that I try replacing the ROM. For that, it
only requires sending in the serial number of the modem and a mailing
address. I will consider that before the 5yr warrany runs out.
