The message from Gary Smith rises higher:

GS> Clark:

GS> I just read your post on new acquisitions. "Gradually Going
GS> Tornado" is my least fave Bruford release...and I guess it's mainly due
GS> to Jeff Berlin's "vocals." A MONSTER bassist, he could certainly have
GS> omitted those painful vocals and concentrated just on playing, as far
GS> as I'm concerned. OH well...he'd probably say it was a necessary part
GS> of his musical evolving, you know?
I'm listening to it right now. I'm getting more used to the vocals,
but, boy, they aren't very good. They don't add anything to the music
anyway -- except annoyance of course. The lyrics could be better too.
Other than that, it's an OK album.
GS> But "Gothic 17" is, indeed, a good song. My personal favorite on
GS> that album is "Palewell Park."
I've listened to that once, but it didn't do much for me.
GS> Do you have or have you seen or have you heard the album by
GS> Players? It was a one-time studio release. Jeff Berlin on bass, T
GS> Lavitz on keyboards, Scott Henderson on guitar, and Steve Smith (from
GS> Journey) on drums. It really would fall under the "fusion" category,
GS> but the playing is amazing!!
Smith's a good drummer. I like his work on the first three Journey
albums.
Nope, never heard of Players. I've heard of Player who did "Baby, Come
Back," though. Not the same band, I bet :-)
