OO> It is nice to have such an experienced cyclist friend. I've met a
OO> cyclist years ago who is from germany. And I guess he was at the
OO> beginning of his sixties. And he was on a tour from germany to
OO> jerusalem. We were also on a tour to a beautiful lake side which is
OO> about 300 kms from our city. He had told us he sometimes covered
OO> 140kms in a day. We'had greatly appreciated his effort. And hoped to
OO> be like him when we get to his age. Well for the bikes i've five. 4
OO> mtbs and a hybrid. My favourites are My Cannondale killer V 900, My
OO> hybrid Dawes and my touring mtb (no name cause I've built it myself)
OO> which i call Velet (means brat in Turkish).
OO> Go on write me your memories. I'll happily read all of them.
Well, glad you enjoyed reading my message. I will try to tell you
something new each time. But the old memory is failing and I may
repeat myself, if so, please forgive. When I was stationed in
England during the Berlin Air Lift in 1947 and 1948, I had a Phillips
4 speed bike with Generator Headlights and Tail light. I used to
ride all over England on the long weekends. The Train service in
England was great, You could ride to the Station and buy a ticket for
yourself and one for your Bike. Put the Bike in the Baggage car
and when you got to your destination just get your Bike from the
Baggage Car and go riding off into the sunset. In the summer I used
to ride up to Blackpool which is a Beach Resort. Lots of pretty girls.
I also went to London, to Edinborough Scotland, to North Wales,
to Ireland. In Ireland, when they found out that my name was
Shannon I could never buy a drink in the Pubs. They were all bought
for me. The same thing happened in Northern Wales. MY Grandfather
five times removed was born in North Wales in 1702. So there again.
when they found out that my Great, Great, Great, Great, Great
Grandfather was born in Wales, I was just like part of the family.
Sure enjoyed my stay in England. Wish I could go back again.
