I would think astronomers have the ability to do as you suggest. I'm
also sure we will be hearing a great deal more about this asteroid
(Asteroid 1997 XF11) before too much longer.
Many astronomers still insist the asteroid will come between the earth
and the moon in 2028, despite the denial by NASA.
