Gorski has done extensive research into relapse of addicts. His work
began modern treatment for relapse which includes prevention efforts
early in good treatment facities.
Incidently, the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous has been addressing
that same subject since 1939 in the second step. That begins in the
Chapter to the Agnostic and continues on through the next chapter.
First comes the work on denial, and then the message about following
direction.
Some folks simply will not follow direction. They have an ego which
confuses itself with the gods.
