subject: Compaq 2200

Hi All,

I have a 1997 (black) 180mhz Compaq Presario 2200 with 7.10 msdos and Windows 95b.

It is completely integrated with speakers, modem, video, audio, all on the
motherboard. There are no slots for adding any cards. The system works
only partially. It will only display standard vga 16 colors (640x480), no
sound, no modem activity.

I was told that it needs a recover or setup or diagnostic disk to setup a
CPQDIDECD.SYS to install the integrated hardware drivers. I have managed
once or twice out of dozens of tries to bring up the CMOS setup and the
integraged peripherals are shown as on.

If I were on the Internet I would be looking for setup/diagnotic
diskettes, but I'm struggling along on Fidonet at the moment. Right now I'm
using this unit as a file library and it works ok if I don't insist on
sound, modem usage or a better graphic display. I have tried to update in
the Control Program (Display) but it stubbornly stays on the one graphic
display. :(

Has anyone had any experience with the Compaq 2200? I know, I know, the
Compaq can be a pain in the ass, but it taxes me, and I'll sail around Cape
Horn to find setup and diagnotic diskettes for this cute little black box.
:)

Any input will be greatly appreciated.....Mike
