From the edge of the twilight zone, we recently heard maulvi Bakar
muttering:

MB> But reading via Netscape/2 and Changi is a waste of space I would
MB> say.. you are having 2 copies of every single usenet posting in your
MB> harddisk. And most usenet postings are spams anyway..

MB> I just wonder.. Does anyone knows what other Newsreader is there

MB> News??
There is also Souper (makes QWK packets out of the d/l) and Yarn, a
QWK reader which does all the on screen work, using the QWK packets from
Souper. BUT--setting this pair of programs up is more difficult than
setting up Changi (IMO), and the user interface is not nearly as nice
as using NR2 with Changi.
I had a terrible time getting Changi set up--but now that I have it
running, it is a real pleasure to use. I have even gone one step
further by writing a Rexx script, using pppdial31.zip as a dialer, to
automatically start the Changi server, dial up the ISP, post the
replies, fetch the new news, and shut everything down, all with 1 mouse
click.
Then I have another Rexx script to start up the Changi server, start
up NR2, and after I am done, shut everything down, again, all with 2
mouse clicks, not counting reading the news articles.
The more I work with Changi, the more I like it.
The one advantage I see to Souper/Yarn is that it will handle both
e-mail and news in one call.
However I have automated Umail like I have automated Changi, and with
1 mouse click, I dial up the ISP, send the outgoing messages, pick up
the incoming messages, and shut everything down. All new letters are
written off-line, and all incoming mail is read off-line. And, once
again, the Umail interface is much nicer to work with than the
Souper/Yarn interface, which is kind of DOSish in comparison.
