Hi, It was nice to hear from you!
I have one child, a daughter, Erika. She is 11 years old and she's also
smart. Sometimes I find it hard to keep up with her. We study using alot of
diffrent materials. She excells in math and science and literature. We use a
High School Science and English books and also some College Literature books.
I have to go to hihger level books sometimes because everything else is
boring to her. I have to find new ways to keep her challenged and that's not
always easy. I've been homeschooling for 6 years now and its going great. We
do alot of hands on things and take alot of educational trips but she calls
them adventures. She tells me, "Let's go on an Adventure this week ,Mom! We
do alot of things about animals because she already wants to become a
veterinarian. We take little adventures to the vet near us who takes care of
our two rottweilers and our cat and the Dr.s there let Erika help them in
Examining the animals. They already told her that when she turns 16, she can
go and work for them. She likes school and I am Glad for that!
It was hard at times because she got bored too fast because she mastered
everything so quickly. Once I figured out to just let her go at her own pace,
it worked out fine. We used to live in Calif. We moved here to Kingman
Arizona about a year and a half ago. I love it here. There is so much more
freedom here to homeschool in my own way. There's really no restrictions here
for me at all. I just had to file what's called an affidavit of intent to
homeschool and that's all. There is a service through the Dept. of Education
that you can pay $25. and a certified teacher will come out and evaluate the
child and the curriculum being used. We did that last year and they found
that my way of doing things was Excellent in their eyes and that was great to
hear. We do have our challenges at times but I usually find a way to solve
it.Do you ever let your kids correspond to other kids like pen pals? My
daughter might enjoy writing to your kids sometime if that's o.k. with you!
Write back if you can,
Janice Allison
... It doesn't have to make sense! It just has to work!
