Hi Alex, I snipped your request out of Wl-ski's reply. My sister just
brought me a 6-qt basket of hop flowers, and mentioned that she is
tearing out her vine. Startled, I enquired why. It seems hops is an
exhuberant grower, and hers is becoming a pest.
And I consider comfrey just about as bad. Any cultivation near it
is risky, as even a leaf portion landing on damp soil can sprout. A
tiny portion of root will send up a leaf by mid-summer, and next year
you have a full-blown tenacious plant that requires deep digging to
remove. (And don't leave any!) I have a full row to dig...or at
least, my hubby does. And half a job will mean we're right back at
Square One.
Sis thinks hops is almost as bad as comfrey. :-)
