| subject: | Re: [OS2HW] Help new problem was Updated Install Disks |
Hi Ken
Thanks for responding. I'm not disagreeing with you but rather reporting
what I see since it has been over 3 years since I've installed any OS/2
system and I've apparently forgotten a lot. What is happening now is I can
start with an empty hard drive and boot the 3 diskettes and with the CD in
place I get to the LVM screen where I first install bootmanager. Then I
select it's startup values and save. Then the only menuitems left are
basically "remove bootmanager" and "create volume".
Once I've created the target volume the menuitem becomes available for
"add to bootmanager" and "set installable". IIRC it is
desireable at this point (first diskette set boot) to "set
installable". Here one must reboot iirc (I've tried so many different
things it's getting difficult to recall after so many failed boots) OR if
one sees (because of previous install tries and LVM "touches")
the desired drive letter is available to "accept the volume" the
initial install can begin. After it asks for
the "copyfromfloppy"s and does the network prep and checks
workstation config then you are asked to remove floppies and hit enter to
reboot for the first time from harddrive. At no time do I see "set
startable" not greyed out during this process, yet BootManager is
enabled and works but soon after I see the little white logo at top left
and *very* quickly afterward it stops with the now oft mentioned
""cannot load startup file system".
I really don't have a clue at this point what is going wrong but as the
HAL 9000 said "it's always been human error" so it's probably me
forgetting something or it's order. I certainly hope some sharp soul can
shed some light on this for me. I'm beginning to feel kinda dull in this
area anyway ;)
