With just my wife and I, filing jointly, and even with her working for the first time in years, our Federal tax liability came to $77. And even that was due only to the penalty I took from cashing in my 401(K). Of course, it was necessary for me to cash in because I was unemployed for 10 months. And which is why my wife had to start working again. And though I *did* get a job, eventually, doing almost exactly the same thing I was doing when laid off (actually a bit more), I took a $7500 pay cut, and glad to get it. All in all, I would rather have paid the taxes. (All in all, I'd rather be in Philadelphia.
