I've had issues with my own config just because I didn't see the outcome. They are all fixed now as far as I know.

I don't know what that is supposed to mean. I converse with sysops on a fairly regular basis in netmail and echomail. Sometimes we just banter and if there are issues we solve them.

Ping is neither secure nor insecure. It is just a tool you can use if you need it.
