VISITOR, Nor'sea 27.
Job ended with a layoff and I am trying to put my boat in shape
for some real time cruising. I have had five years to think up things
that I would like to have on my sloop when the time came to go.
So far I have gotten my backstay made into a HF antenna,
ordered parts to make my forestay into a double forestay. Also I would
like to make my diesel over into a closed cooling system, just put a
heat exchanger on order.
I still have not decided on which SSB-HF to buy. I do know the
wind steering unit I am going to get. The Auto-helm, since I have a
double ender, I feel that a wind steering that operates a trim tap on my
rudder is the best way to go.
Electrical power is still up in the air, that is I don't know if
I want a wind generator or load up on solar cells. My boat is way to
slow for a water generator also a big engine generator is out, I only
have a 15hp engine, to small for that. I really don't want to hang a
wind generator on the stern but I have to have something if I am going
to sea for two or three years.
As soon as these things are resolved and I have them installed
and tested on the West Coast, I will trailer cross country to Texas and
start my Caribbean cruise.
