well, here i am again asking for input. i've looked at Diamond
SupraExpress, Motorola VoiceSurfer and Hayes Voice modems and have
found the following.
Diamond uses comit for dos meaning it'd be useless in Linux so it's out.
read the box on Hayes Data Fax which provided infomation not found
on the web site, it's jumper configurable but the store didn't have
a voice Hayes so i don't know about it, also cnet rated them relatively
poorly. Motorola VoiceSurfer looks good but i've heard of line noise
sensitivity on the ModemSurfer and don't know if this applies to
the VoiceSurfer, also it's data pump is not software upgradable but
must be shipped back to upgrade to the standard when it's decided on.
i've been putting off this purchase for some time as none of these units
meets all my requirements but the increasing complexity of web sites
is now becoming a major slowdown with this 14,400 and is annoying.
i'm looking for a modem kflex, jumper configurable, preferally
software upgradable, hardware data compression and error correction.
i'm leaning towards the VoiceSurfer although the hardware upgrade
requirement is a pain in the likely event it does not conform to
the standard when it arrives. anyone have any luck with any brand
that meets these requirements. any information would be most welcome,
Best regards.
