Sounds similar to my story. Started playing in '66 or so after going to the
first h.s. dance with a live band. Wow! Played off and on but never got
serious until about 4 years ago. Took 18 months worth of lessons, improved
greatly but still am only treading water in the deep end. I think the best
thing you can do (besides practice all the time) is play with people better
than you.
