subject: CONNECT PROBLEM

RD>I'm using a SUPRAFAX 288 external, and I'm having trouble connecting
RD>to two mail feeds, both of which are using USR modems. My Binkley
RD>log shows the following:
RD>RINGING
RD>Carrier 21600
RD>Protocol: Lap-M
RD>Compression: V.42Bis
RD>No Carrier
RD>About 1 in 12 times the connection will go through and send mail.
RD>There is one other SysOp in our net having this problem, and he is
RD>using a SUPRAFAX 288 external as well. Has anyone else seen this
RD>before? And what can I do to fix it?
Are the USRs running current ROM code?
Are both Supra 288's running the beta rom code (if not, I
        would try it)?
What does ATS86? report after that "NO CARRIER" message?
