Help Please,
Recently I put together a nice OS/2 & win95 combo box for a friend of mine.
Please don't slam me for including win95 (Boot Mgr.). The PNP sound card
works just fine under os/2 but the problem comes in when DOS games are
installed. Now these games (somewhat older, Descent, jill, xargon, wolf)
all work fine and have sound effects but NO music. I know it's not an OS/2
problem because I have the same games on my system but I have the standard
SB16 (Non-PNP) and all works perfect with the same settings.
The settings of both SB cards are standard defaults except that IRQ10 is
used in both machines.
Those same games that won't produce music under OS/2, do produce music with
win95 on the same machine. I can only guess that the vibra has a problem
with the SB drivers under OS/2. All other sound on this system works great,
it's just the DOS game music under OS/2 that seem to have a problem.
I know this might seem like a small problem, but many of his family members
use this computer, and it's hard for me brag about the +'s of OS/2 when the
same programs run better under win95. It's not a gaming system but with kids
in the house it must serve as one at times.
He is running WARP4 FP6 and I think the original SB16 drivers from the
install CD-ROM are still at that level. I'm hoping that there is an
updated driver out there that will fix the problem, but I cant seem to
find any such animal...
Any suggestions to correct the problem would be appriciated...
Thanks,
Charles Jackson
