Since the scsi was the last installed, I would prefer it to be The Last disk number. The scsi is used mostly for archives. What is "SCSI BIOS 2.20"? How old is "much older"? > Why is it that some OS's and some utilities, name drives starting with 0,1,2 and some start as 1,2 &3. Is this to placate those who cannot grasp 0 as a number? Computers often save memory or address space by counting from 0 instead of one. Any human interface to a process that does this should shift such counts up by one, but very commonly they don't. > Anyway, the scsi moves around sometimes it's the first drive and sometimes it's the last drive. > How can I ensure that it is always the Last drive regardless of the OS or utility. How old are your motherboard and its BIOS? Modern BIOS try to be smart, but many fail. Typically they allow you to set particular drives to show up in a particular order, but many will rearrange things if you add, remove, or rearrange physical drives, or do anything to make the BIOS think things have been rearranged. A particular problem involves SATA and USB devices, usually worst with Linux. Linux pretends SATA devices are SCSI devices, and usually pretends USB devices are SCSI devices as well. When you really do have real SCSI devices, Linux can be really stupid about drive assignment order. It seems eCS/OS2 may not be perfect in this regard either, and doze is just too unpredictable to predict what it will do in every case of multiple devices. With modern BIOS, it helps to stick to only one HD type, but that's not always so easy with the convenience of HDs attached via USB. Devices really need to be mounted only by label any more to insure against unwanted rearranging in multiple device environments. This is pretty much what XP and LVM do. Linux can too, but rarely does it by default. -- "Be quick to listen, slow to speak." James 1:19 NIV Team OS/2 ** Reg.
