In the interests of generating message traffic I will post this update on the
progress of my FS RICHELIEU project :-).
General background: The RICHELIEU is a circa 1940 French battleship that I'm
building in 1/96 scale. It's 101.65" long; 13.54" beam and will weigh about
120lbs. A particularly unusual feature of the model is a two part hull so
that the ship can be easily car transported. The model is constructed of a
plywood keel and frames planked with 1/8" balsa. The wooden structure will be
entirely fibreglassed (Z-poxied).
This is where the project stand as of today. The hull has been fully framed
up and is approximately 70% planked (I should add that plywood planking was
used in some high stress areas. Roughly 40 lbs. of lead shot ballast has
already been installed.
I expect to have a completed hull by next Spring although I don't expect to
have to have it fitted out (mechanically) for sometime long thereafter.
