I broke down and went to the crummy theater - got there at 12:55 for a 1:00
show and the only seats left were 4th row or closer to the screen so I was
very close to the blood. As far as the violence goes, yes it is, but he
does enough flashbacks during same to temper it a bit. You can still almost
feel your own skin ripping though and there were a lot of tears being shed
- including my own.
I don't feel comfortable offering either praise or condemnation, it's a
film you'll not soon forget and is not conducive to any third-party's
opinion, IMHO. It's certainly a film that should be seen. If you recall
Mel's slain wife moving through the crowd at the end of
"Braveheart" you already have an idea of the construction of some
of the scenes - but involving evil.
