In what way was .502, .516, or 1.02 series _not_ K56flex?
Ascend and Cisco servers work alright with all versions.
And are backwards compatible with K56Plus AFAIK
(there were no released K56Plus models from Zoom btw)

The only serious modem maker AFAIK was Supra with their Express 56e (?)
They're offering a update swap program now. There may also be some
Hayes out there too since their "Upgrade any old modem for US $99
(UKP 99 in UK)" had been running for sometime. But I don't know of an
update swap program for them - yet
