| subject: | Re: [OS2HW] Help! Video Driver solution |
Greetings all OK now that I have my new system with MSI-K8n Neo2 Platinum and AMD64 really purring quite nicely with a fresh install of WSeB I am confronting the deal-breaker that caused me to setup a networked, dedicated OS/2 box in the first place since it just can't keep up in the video driver department. The last time it matched for me was an nVidia TNT2 and that was almost 5 years ago and alsmost as many video card revisions. Now my new system uses an nVidia GeForce 6600 GT which has 256megs video ddr ram and amazing 3D acceleration. My problem is that even if I could bring myself to spend nearly $40 US for SNAP drivers (running a very close 2nd to M$ asking $50 for USBSUPP.dll so that Win95 would handle AGP - the last time I bought anything bigger than a mouse from M$) they don't support this chipset and considering they just this year gained support for GeForce *5500* !!! it's going to be long past this card's usefullness to me before they finally get around to it. So I am soliciting ideas from the group for drivers that will at least give me basic OpenGL 3D svga support on this chipset w/o spending an arm&a leg, preferably free (which considering Scitech's lack of support I think their's should be for home users, or at least really cheap, but oh well cold day in hell and all that) . I looked at scitech beta drivers and if they don't run out of time that could possibly work at least on some fundamental level. Does IBM have (or have plans to soon change to) free or cheap drivers for basic nVidia support? Please help soon since my snap downloaded drivers run out this week.
