Here in Australia, there are several makes of reasonably priced power 
boards that have phone line spike limiters in them.

I'd hope this kind of board is available where you are. We all use power 
boards when we have computer systems, what with power needed for CPU, 
monitor, printer, modem, LAN Switch, etc, so why not treat yourself to a 
new board with the phone line lightening strike protection built in ?
