G'day Bob,
Replying to a message of Bob Lawrence to Jeff Green on 24/05/97:
JG>> Unfortunately, that's the nature of Internet news. It is
JG>> assumed that you posted in a public forum, therefore you posted
JG>> to All. This applies even when you're specifically replying to
JG>> someone. That's the only reasoning I can think of for it
JG>> anyway.
BL> Bloody hell! This is not acceptable. How the bloody hell do you find
BL> replies to your questions?
We could get everybody to standardize on the courtesy line format eg
To: Bob Lawrence From: Jeff Green on 24/05/97
The important part would be the "To: first [middle] last From:"
part. They're mostly automatic macros anyway. Then a search could be done
for the courtesy line and, in my case, the squish messages changed to have
a proper To: line. I know this is pretty dodgy stuff, but I can't think of
anything else.
I find it a PITA also as some messages for me aren't tossed into my
personal message base.
BL> PAUL!! You're going to have to add a To: line in your EdwardsNet
BL> standards. Or do we always use mail instead of news...?
But if it's gated to you via Paul from me, he wont know who to put in the
To: line as Wtrgate will not have supplied him the information required.
Mail is the way the internet was designed. You asked a general question and
then conversed privately with anybody interested enough to help you. At
least, that's my understanding of it.
