Found the problem - I was just being a bit too gentle in my attempts to
seat the caddy. Works fine now, after I made sure it had gone all the
way home. I've now tried it with a floppy disk, a CD-RW/DVD combo and
the hard drive caddy. All work well.

No, its a full height slot. It wouldn't take a very long card, but it
(for instance) will take a standard height NIC that I had lying around.
Quite a useful device all in all. Especially since I picked it up from
eBay for around 15 pounds Stirling :)
