When you say "plastic cylinder" I assume you're refering the the loading coil 
of the CB antenna? What you did was create an "inductive coupling" between 
the 100' wire and the antenna. This can be done with purt near any recieving 
antenna. Something you might want to try just as an interesting experiment is 
take a small pocket-sized AM radio and wrap the end of a long peice of wire 
around it several times. You'd never believe the stations that "el-cheapo" 
radio is capable of picking up!
