-> I was wondering your thoughts on mercury points? Around here people
-> poping up with a bullet that's point is a hollow point filled with me
-> and sealed with a thin layer oof something. Apparently its supposed
-> to kill whatever it hits. Wondering your thoughts on this?
David,
Played with them 20 years ago after I saw them in a "Dirty Harry"
style movie.
#1 mercury is too dangerous to fool with. Even skin
contact, will over time build up in your blood stream and kill you.
#2. Mercury is to expensive to use.
#3. Over a period of months, the mercury is absorbed by the lead.
Actually the mercury dissolves the lead and the tip becomes brittle and
a sandstone consistency. This defeats any hollow point design and you
end up with a non expanding bullet.
Been there, done that, got the tee shirt...not worth the trouble or
risk to your health.
Shoot safe,
Mike
