subject: DN3D vs. QUAKE

It is hard to compare two different games produced for two different markets.
3d Realms does produce games for the lower portion of computer gamers-486's.
I can say, however, that Quake will run extremely well at vid_mode 10 on a
bare requirement system-P100 w/ only 8 megs ram. Quake is not really well
written but still has better lighting and a better level system. I don't like
not having a 'use' function, though. And I must disagree with John Romero
regarding storyline. A good game without a good story is NOT a good game.
Bottom line--and this is my opinion--Quake has better visuals(lighting and
level engine) but lacks gameplay(storyline, good weapons, etc.). Wait for a
better company to use the Quake-type engine for a good game, like 3d Realm's
Prey, Epic's Unreal, or LucasArts's Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight, and get the
best of both worlds(requiring a pentium, of course).
