RW> I really like 'Monstrous... ' until the end. I do not like the liberty
that
RW> King takes in the ending. I don't want to say more about it, as I don't
want
RW> to tip off what happens to people who haven't read the book yet.
Still worth reading, IMHO, but the end was disappointing, I thought -
closed with a fizzle.
RW> Although it
RW> may be common knowledge around here, my participation has been pretty
spotty
RW> lately.
Hope it's been due to your having lots of fun stuff to read or
otherwise more entertaining things to do!
RW> Some people thought the book was too feminist or too religious, if I
remember
RW> correctly; but those themes didn't intrude on my enjoyment, and were
essential
RW> to the story as far as I'm concerned.
I, too, enjoyed that take on the story.
RW> Otherwise, I been stuck with a number of quite ho-hum readings, nothing
that
RW> really stands out, except for my current one, 'The Music of What
Happens' by
RW> John Straley. I think this is the third in his Cecil Younger series and
every
RW> bit as enjoyable as 'The Woman Who Married a Bear' and 'The Curious Eat
RW> Themselves'. Younger is an alchoholic Alaskan who admits to "not being a
very
RW> good detective." Straley writes beautifully and revealingly about life
in
RW> Alaska. His titles come from folk legends.
Sounds like an interesting series. Wouldn't have likely picked them
up due to the titles, but may now that I have your rec.
