I wish I were in Cal. Who told you that?
Yes Greg Smith is my #1 freelance Guy. I'm using him to help out at our
Sales meeting the end of this month. We'll be doing some video
recording at the meeting site for play back to another group two days
later.
I'll get in toutch with you after the meeting. Right now I'm out to the
walls with production.
I just finished a nice 14min. video covering the first 100 years of the
company. 1995 is our centennial had to move right along to cover 100
years in 14 minutes. All in all I'm happy with the way it turned out.
I'll give you a copy when I see you.
Catch you in March.
Jim

I hope we can get together after our big meeting.
Things should be back to normal in March.

Subj: Starting Business?
KM> I'm not looking at going into it full time, but
KM> am looking it as a revenue stream to keep me in school. I
KM> also believe that this will give me great experience for
KM> when I do graduate (in two years) with my bachelors, I will
KM> be able to go into it full time.
KM>
KM> Any advice you could share would be appreciated.
My personal suggestion is to invest in S-VHS gear, preferably, a Panasonic
3-CCD camcorder and 7000-series editors, with a MX-12 or similar switcher and
a decent VGA-based CG program w/genlock. You can't create an income stream
with an investment in BetaCam on a "part-time" basis...at least not
easily...but you CAN use S-VHS for professional purposes and do consumer
projects as well...like weddings and special events and the like, as well as
entry-level commercial production. S-VHS is easier to make back your money
on. If you were to go into it full-time right now, my advice might be
different...but if you're ready to invest in the broadcast stuff, the
investment needs to be both time and money to succeed. The risks are much
higher.
KM> I believe that I have the abilities to produce products for
KM> the corporate world (with my years of production behind me
KM> along with my continuing education) on the upper plateau.
You need to make your clients believe that. That means an excellent demo
tape, good marketing and packaging techniques, and excellent business skills.
It's more than shooting and editing.
Again, my recommendation is to start with S-VHS. When you can put 100% of
your effort into the business, upgrade your equipment and go full-blast.
Your returns will be greater each step of the way....
