ml>>> command line param... or possible use the ICA (inter communications
ml>>> area)... ICA isn't all that big... 16 bytes i think... i'm not sure
ml>>> about support on all platforms, either... as i recall, gateway decided
ml>>> a while back that it wasn't being used by anyone and started using it
 KF>
KF>> That might be a good idea if I could assure that it wouldn't
KF>> be used by anything else.
ml>> i think there was something about using a CRC or prefixing the comm
ml>> stuff with specific chars so you could tell if it was your command to
 ml>> play with or not...
KF> But if it's already being used then I shouldn't be writing to
KF> it at all, so I won't bother with the idea of messing with it.
as i recall, you check the info in there first... if it is yours then you use
it... otherwise, no and depending on the application, you may check it
again...
it is kinda obscure and the development time would likely be better spent
elsewhere...
KF>> Hmmm... am I getting confused or what? Too many late nights at
KF>> the keyboard again, no doubt. Of course your idea will work.
ml>> i used to do dBase programing for a living... there were times that
ml>> i'd start a session about 10am on monday morning and the next time i
ml>> looked at the clock was maybe 2am three days later... the time simply
ml>> passed as i churned out lines of code... coffee (about 5 pots a day by
ml>> myself) and cigs and some of those microwave meals... but time simply
ml>> slipped by... i do know that the longest session i did was like 9 or
ml>> 10 days straight thru... they woke me up with a whole box of paper on
ml>> the floor, my finger still holding the formfeed button and my head
ml>> laying on the keyboard beeping like crazy... it was the beeping that
ml>> caused them to peek into my office and see what was up... i had been
ml>> like that for only 20 minutes or so... i went home and slept for three
ml>> days before they saw me again... > t'is sad that those days are
ml>> gone... i used to get a lot of coding done in those days... didn't
ml>> have very many customers that minded paying $150US/hour or more for
ml>> development either... 'specially when it came to custom manufacturing
 ml>> applications...
 KF> That's hilarious...
> it's been more than once i've unloaded a fresh box of paper thru a
printer by falling asleep while formfeeding it OB-)
KF> I always find that my brain only starts working and any real
KF> work gets done only after 12 hours of getting warmed up, and
KF> then once I get going I don't want to stop because everything
KF> becomes clear in my mind at that point. It's only when the sun
KF> comes up and the birds start chirping that I realize how late
 KF> it is.
very true...
KF> I wonder if there's any relation to a relaxed brain and
KF> clearer thinking, or if it's just because I've finally dealt
KF> with all the intrusions of the day and can finally focus
KF> myself on the task at hand?
i'm sure... i'm working on some 'sound therapy' stuff now that uses alpha,
beta, theta and other 'brainwave' forms... using white or pink noise as the
carrier and putting them in in certain sequences and rythms, one comes up
with some pretty interesting responses... my favorite is a 30 minute session
into theta... really opens the mind's creative side up... it is, however, not
something many folks do... meditation and that kind of stuff, that is... one
really has to be in the mindset to be able to really take advantage...
